Though I love to bake desserts from scratch, when I’m in a bind, I’m not opposed to using a boxed recipe. I’ve also found ways to cut time by substituting ingredients with boxed mixes. For instance, did you know you can make moist, delicious brownies with boxed cake mix? It’s true!

Red Velvet Brownies
  1. 1 box of your favorite red velvet cake mix
  2. 1 cup butter, melted
  3. 1 egg
  4. 1/2 cup water
  5. 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  6. Cream cheese icing1 box of your favorite red velvet cake mix
  7. 1 cup butter, melted
  8. 1 egg
  9. 1/2 cup water
  10. 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  11. Cream cheese icing
  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
  2. Combine egg, butter, water in a bowl. Add red velvet mix, stir until the ingredients are combined, and lumps are gone.
  3. Add chips and 1 cup of nuts, and pour mixture into the greased 9x13-inch baking pan.
  4. Bake for 35 - 40 minutes. Allow brownies tp cool for 15 minutes and place on cooling rack.
  5. Once completely cooled, frost red velvet brownies with cream cream icing.
