Fashion Friday: The Power of Pleated Skirts

Pull out those pleated skirts from your past. They are trending big time now, but the truth is they never go out of style, making them perfect investment pieces. They have a flattering fit and qualities that make them so versatile. They come in a wide variety of colors, textures, fabrics, lengths and prices. If you have depleted your pleated skirts, this is the year to go shopping and restore them to your closet. Here are a few of my favorites along with suggestions for wearing them.

Pleats can make your outfit sophisticated and feminine with lady-like shoes, but can be toughened up a little with a black embroidered moto jacket. To make the outfit even more casual, change those shoes to boots and the embroidered jacket to denim.

Two trends are seen in this skirt: pleats and plaid. I love the swirl. A black blouse with ivory ruffled cuffs and pearls give this a professional, put together look, but if you add a chunky sweater with those boots, in place of the blouse,  you become casual chic.

Pleats add volume without adding bulk to make them flowing and flattering. Who wants bulk on their tummy, hips and thighs? Partially pleated, only in the front, also slims the body. The touch of metallic shine in this partially pleated skirt is made more casual by wearing flat boots and a fluffy faux fur jacket.

I love my shiny silver skirt but I make it “cool-girl” fashion by wearing it with sneakers and a sweater with badges. This skirt also works with a tee, blazer and boots. When I want to dress it up, I go for a glittery sweater and pumps.

My velvet pleated skirt shows two trends in one again: velvet and pleats. I made this ultra feminine with my lacy long-sleeved blouse and pearls. You can make it all more casual by switching out the blouse for a chambray shirt and some southwestern jewelry.

Tell Me: Are you a fan of the pleated skirt trend?
